Healthy Detachment

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you’ve imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.”
Henry David Thoreau

As I was cleaning out closets and preparing my home for new energy efficient windows, I realized how easy it is to accumulate “stuff” even from the last time that I cleared my home of unwanted clutter. Seeing the excess stuff, I also became aware of how I had collected thoughts, mindsets, and beliefs that were no longer appropriate to my being at this time. As I was reflecting on all of this, I kept hearing the mantra from my heart, “simply-baby-simplify.” I knew I was being guided to release the past and embrace the new. From my experience, this process of letting go isn’t so hard with out-dated clothes and unwanted items in my closet, but it’s a bigger stretch to sustain healthy detachment when it comes to clearing my life of unhealthy relationships, negative situations, and past poor choices.

As our world is transforming, we are all being challenged to let go of excess, down-size, and simplify our lives. But, what does this really mean for each of us? Each and everyone of us are being called to examine our lives, be consciously aware of how we are using our energies, and make positive, more enlightened choices for ourselves and the planet. We need to look at how we are using our own spiritual resources as well.

Sustaining healthy detachment applies to our mindsets, beliefs, and even our passion for one political candidate or party. As much as I may have an intention for one candidate to win, I have to open my heart, let go, and trust the outcome of my energy and its alignment with others. We need to keep in mind that the evolution of the earth is not in the hands of one special person, but rather in the invisible hands of all of our energies and how we choose to direct them. Fueling negativity about one candidate or an issue actually gives that person more power.

So therefore, when sustaining healthy detachment, it is important for us to check our thoughts, feelings, and actions to discern if they are directing positive energy into the world. Our enlightened intentions can bring about a greater good, peace, and light to all human beings no matter who wins the election or what policies are voted upon. For when they originate from the flow of unconditional love, they move beyond the pattern of right/wrong, good/bad, and win/lose and becomes the force that really will transform our world.

It is time we open our hearts in healthy detachment, acknowledge others for their points of view, and genuinely love them even when we disagree or hold different perspectives. Politics doesn’t change the world-unconditional love and acceptance does.
