Flowing with the Cycles of Life

July 23, 2012 By Debra Reble

Debra Reble Flowing with the Cycles of LifeWhen we flow with the cycles of life, we move through life with a sense of purpose and ease. In the natural world, cycles perpetuate life, such as the changing seasons, the rings of trees, the spirals of shells, or the orbits of planets, which exist because of nature’s forces and reflect healthy transformation. Having a conscious awareness of participating in the cyclical transformations of life affords us a spiritual clarity that promotes physical healing and a sense of wholeness. The naturalist Rachel Carson describes the value of such awareness of these cycles in The Sense of Wonder: “Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. . . . There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature-the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”

Our human transformation imitates nature’s cycles of emerging, growing, and shedding as a process of continuing development. Thus, having a sense of the natural order here on earth allows us to observe how we are aligning to our life cycles by letting go, starting new and creating an ongoing relationship with light in our lives.

Visualize nature’s cycles as a metaphor for your own life. Observe the beauty of these natural cycles, noting parallels in your own life, to appreciate how our physical existence is based on these cycles. For example, sunrise is the opportunity to begin anew, to open to fresh possibilities and to offer yourself a clean slate. Begin with gratitude for what you already have been given and let your intent for the day flow from this ever expanding, abundant divine source.

Let sunset be a time of letting go and completion. Free yourself from any resentments, grievances or disappointments by blessing and releasing the day.
The act of blessing and releasing anyone or anything assists us in letting go of our past, appreciating the present more fully, and orienting us toward the future. Most importantly, it permits us to embrace our natural life cycles, accepting them as a series of births and deaths, spiritual transitions that lead to our personal transformation.

This beautifully written article really resonates with me. Every September a big change happens in my life and this year is no different. It is very helpful reading your article and being reminded that it is just part of the cycle. Thank you Debra!

Thanks for the beautiful reminder of what I hold so dear! Without my time in nature and honoring the cycles of nature, I would not be able to reset and center myself. During my walks in nature with my dog, I feel that I truly connect with my inner self and often times get solutions to problems and new inspiration.
Plus, I have the added bonus of living in New England and the changing cycles never ceases to awe and inspire me!

Debra, this is beautifully written and so in alignment with my own values. Thank you for writing about this–we need to say so much more about flowing and learning from nature’s cycles.

    Debra,
I love this, and I especially love the gentle opening up and releasing in tune with the sun’s cycle. I am so affecting by it, so it makes sense to use it as a time to reflect.
    Thanks!
    Keyra
