“Friendship is the universal spiritual attraction that unites souls in the bond of divine love.” ~ Paramhansa Yogananda
When we create an energetic support team, we invite into our lives people who love us unconditionally, without judging, enabling, or interfering with our choices. Such a soul team consists of kindred spirits who encourage the full expression of our true being rather than our ego or the roles we play. They motivate us to follow our hearts, spiritually grow, and be the best person we can be.
When we have a deep emotional bond and a soul connection that transcends all life cycles, it can last a lifetime. These are the rare friends who know our strengths and weaknesses, are honest with us, and reflect our true being. We may have a disagreement with them or not see them for long periods of time, but our soul connection is maintained, and they are vital to our spiritual progression. Such lifelong friendships make up our core energetic soul team; these are our soul companions for lifetimes.
We may realize that people with whom we have had the longest or closest relationships, including some family members or friends, might not be the best choices for our energetic soul team. That’s because they may be still invested in keeping the status quo and threatened by our personal and spiritual growth. For instance, our transformations may trigger resistance or defensiveness within them. Our changes may especially challenge those who are afraid to see that they aren’t living up to their own soul potential. Thus, some may disconnect from us and even project their feelings of fear or pain onto us or blame us for the unraveling of the relationship. People with whom we suppress our needs or dismiss our desires are not truly on our soul team.
In my own experience, I have found that an energetic soul team is often revealed when we are moving through a transition or dealing with a difficult situation—times when others tend to show their true character. An example of one such situation occurred when my brother, Matt, supported me when I needed to refinance my mortgage, change the title to my house, and generate more income after my divorce. As part of my team, he encouraged me to refinance the house despite my worries that the loan would not go through. After the loan was approved, I realized that the combination of Matt’s energies with my own had created a clear intention that we manifested.
Building an energetic support team requires careful observation of people we know to decide who unconditionally supports us and who doesn’t. Here are suggested guidelines to use creating your energetic soul team.
- Make sure your intentions are positive so that you attract people who assist you in sustaining your well-being, expressing yourself creatively and following your heart. Questions you can ask yourself include: “Does this person enhance my life, Do I feel good about myself when I with this person, and Does this relationship bring out the best of me?” If you answer no to any of these questions, then this person is not on your soul team.
- Observe your relationships to see who serves a supportive role in your life. Many support systems are set up to perpetuate the patterns of struggle, failure, victimization, or even illness. Instead, select healthy support systems comprised by psychotherapists, spiritual guides, or soul-connected friends who encourage your personal and spiritual transformation.
- Evaluate your relationships to see who’s truly on your energetic support team by asking yourself, “Who unconditionally supports me to spiritually grow and reach my fullest potential? Who is trustworthy, has integrity, and is impeccable with their word? Who accepts me for who I am, but gives loving feedback when asked? Does this person call you out when you are not being true to yourself?
It’s important to surround yourself with people who love, support, listen to, and encourage you without judging, enabling, or complaining. Choose people who are trustworthy, loving, playful, and exude a sheer love of life. When you are with such a person, you feel inspired, safe, and free to express your true being. They take responsibility for their own issues, make enlightened choices, and do the inner spiritual work necessary for personal transformation.
The most important thing that matters is spending time with those you love. So, surround yourself with those that love, support, and care for you unconditionally. They are your energetic soul team.
